ICU (Intensive Care Unit)
Purpose: The ICU is a specialized department in a Medican Hospital that provides intensive treatment and monitoring for patients with severe or life-threatening illnesses and injuries. It is staffed with specially trained healthcare professionals, including doctors, nurses, and respiratory therapists.
Equipment: The ICU is equipped with advanced medical equipment to closely monitor and support vital functions, such as heart rate, blood pressure, oxygen levels, and organ function.
Common Conditions: Patients in the ICU might suffer from conditions like severe infections, cardiac arrest, respiratory failure, traumatic injuries, or complications from surgery.
Ventilator
Purpose: A ventilator is a machine that supports or takes over the breathing process for patients who are unable to breathe adequately on their own. It is commonly used in ICUs for patients with respiratory failure.
How It Works: The ventilator pushes air, often enriched with oxygen, into the lungs through a tube inserted into the patient's airway. It can be set to assist or completely control the patient's breathing.
Indications: Ventilators are used for patients with severe respiratory conditions like pneumonia, acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), or during and after major surgeries.
